It has very interesting figure and grain and was sanded to 12,000 grit and finished with a mixture of orange oil and beeswax giving it a smooth finish and soft luster.

Burls yield a very peculiar and highly figured wood, prized for its beauty by many; its rarity also adds to its expense. It is sought after by furniture makers, artists, and wood sculptors. Burl wood is very hard to work with hand tools or on a lathe because its grain is twisted and interlocked, causing it to chip and chatter unpredictably. This "wild grain" makes burl wood extremely dense and adds to is character.

These curly pear candle holders measure 2 1/2" across at the base, 3" across at the top of the glass, and are 8 1/4" high. They were sanded to 1200 grit, finished with a high gloss polish, and waxed. The grain of the figured maple provides an intriguing appearance that is sure to make these become a family heirloom. The candles pictured are included.

These candle sticks are made from spalted maple and stand 5" tall and 2 1/2" inches in diameter at the base. As with any 100% handmade set of candle sticks they are very similar in shape, but there are slight variations as I do not use a duplicator or other such machinery in my work. I have placed them close together in the picture so this can be seen, but as soon as they are separated the differences are not noticeable. (Candles are included)
